Fein MOL1200E 10.2 Amp 8-Inch Random Orbit Sander with Vacuum Adaptor

Gets the job done in half the time. Covers 78% more surface area than a standard six-inch sander. End up with a smoother, better finish. This variable speed sander has an instantaneous electronic feedback system. This advanced electronic circuitry maintains constant RPM. No matter how much pressure you apply, you won't stall this tool. When you use the Fein sander with a Fein dust extractor, you capture 98% of the airborne dust created from sanding. Dust-free sanding provides a better finish. The sandpaper stays cooler and won't load with particulate or broken abrasive. And, sandpaper life is increased as much as 10 times.
Customer Review: Amazing
I purchased this sander because I was restoring a 150-yr-old pine floor and didn't want to remove 150 yrs of patina (just the paint and rough surfaces). Plus I wanted to hook the sander up to a HEPA vacuum to collect the lead paint dust. The sander is powerful and is aggressive. On softwoods it can't pick up all the dust, but it would have been much worse without this setup. I never would have bought this for my woodworking shop, but for large flat surfaces nothing beats this for doing an excellent job quickly. On hardwoods there is practically no dust. I love this machine for smoothing large flat surfaces. One reviewer noted that the on/off switch is placed in a poor location and can be accidentally shut off. I would agree, but you can get used to it. I own Dewalt and Bosch 6" sanders and they don't hold a candle to the Fein on large flat surfaces. You can buy sandpaper for this machine from Klingspor much cheaper.
Customer Review: Pass on this tool
I have been a carpenter and cabinet maker for over 30 years and have used many tools. For the money, this tool rates at the bottom. It has enormous vibration that will fatigue the user quickly and the on/off switch is put in the worst possible location. It is impossible to use this tool without inadvertently turning it off. It is one of the most annoying tools I have ever used. It does, however, do a decent job of dustless sanding, but at a stiff price both in money and comfort. Do yourself a huge favor and buy the Bosch 6 inch random orbit sander model 1250 DEVS. I bought the Bosch at the same time and use it over the Fein 9 times out of 10. And the Bosch is $500.00 cheaper. The Bosch has much less vibration and has a non orbit mode that takes material off fast and is much less fatiguing than the Fein.

Bosch 1250DEVS 6.5 Amp 6-Inch Random Orbit Sander with Vacuum Port

About Bosch Random Orbit Sanders
In Bosch's random orbit sander family, you'll find an assortment of powerful, versatile sanders and polishers that are designed for low vibration and minimal noise. These models feature counterbalance mechanisms that serve as the basis for the dual bearing pad mount system, which can be operated with one finger on a soft grip.

About the Bosch 1250DEVS Random Orbit Sander
The 1250DEVS multiple-purpose sander from Bosch has two sanding modes: random orbit mode for normal stock removal or fine finishing, and an aggressive "Turbo" drive eccentric orbit mode that operates at five times the regular rate, in order to remove rougher stock. Its simple sanding mode selector switch quickly changes back and forth between the two modes, as your projects require it -- and the powerful 6.5 amp variable speed motor (3,100 to 6,650 opm) matches the tool's speed to the task, for a smooth result on all surfaces.

This model is crammed with great convenience and power features, including a soft start function that tones down the start-up torque and a variable speed dial that makes it extra easy to match your working speed to the project. It also has Constant Response circuitry that maintains the pad speed under heavy loads while simultaneously protecting against overloads, and an integral pad dampening system to help prevent swirl marks -- plus a passive dust collection system (vacuum and hoses required, available by Bosch). The 1250DEVS uses 6-hole, 6-inch hook-and-loop discs. This kit includes a dust tube, soft backing pad, a left or right-hand auxiliary handle, one sanding disc, and a pad wrench (5mm) that stores on-board.

Applications
The 1250DEVS removes stock and finishing material quickly, without scratching -- making it perfect for most sanding jobs, from wood floors to furniture finishing. Bosch makes an assortment of 6-inch hook-and-loop discs and pads to fit this model, including discs for wood, paint, and special applications.

Customer Review: Festool Who?
I needed a sander for resurfacing my deck and while a belt sander would have been ideal it was not a tool that would get much use outside of that task. This sander worked so well that I do not feel I "sacrificed" anything. The "Turbo" mode removed material so fast it was amazing. no vibration what so ever. Once I was done with that job I wanted to test it on so furniture and it worked perfect. my 5" RAS will now sit on the shelf. You cannot go worng with this sander for any and all your sanding needs.
Customer Review: mixed feelings
I have to disagree with the glowing reviews of the sander. My previous sander was a Dewalt and I decided to replace it as I was getting a large number of swirl marks from it with the very hard woods that I like to work with (Wenge, Bloodwood, Purpleheart and so on). I bought this sander on the strengths of the reviews as a replacement, and overall it has not performed as well as the Dewalt. Part of that seems to be design and part that it is just not the right tool for the application. Strengths: 1. This is a very powerful sander. The motor does not break a sweat on anything. 2. The "fast removal" mode lives up to its name... it's very rapid. 3. Seems to work adequately as a polisher, though attempts to use it like this have always resulted in swirls in the finish. That could be user error though. Weaknesses: 1. Intense vibration. You need to have some good vibration absorbing gloves on when using this sander, and long term this kind of vibration is no good for your hands. I worked on the assembly line doing spot welding and I know long term what vibration does to your hands. It's terrible. 2. The same strong motor that doesn't flinch at anything can cause the sander to dance over the surface if the sandpaper grabs instead of gliding. The "fast removal" mode can throw the sander out of balance so that it wobbles and jumps all over the place. Small workpieces need to be clamped in place or else the sander can spin them on the bench. Surfaces that are not perfectly flat cause imbalanced friction on the disk and that can cause some of the jumping around. You need two hands on this, and a firm but light touch at all times. This is in contrast with a smaller, lighter sander that will glide. 3. Regular sanding mode doesn't feel like, in spite of the power of the sander, to remove material any quicker than a smaller, less powerful unit. In combination with the two handed use and the constant threat of the sander jumping, it seems to be a net negative as a tool. 4. "Swirl Free Finish" once again does not live up to its promise. Everyone promises this but few deliver. I think this is really highly dependent on the kind of material you're working with. So overall for myself, I think a lighter less powerful unit would have been the better choice.

Customer Review: Cheaper elsewhere
Cheaper at Home Depot and at Lowes (17.49). I wore out about 2 hook and loops per year so I switched over to PSA, way cheaper way to go!
Customer Review: Saves money
The replacement sander pad ended up giving me two dewalt sanders..After my old trusty sander pad bit the dust i went shopping again. The dewalt had lasted almost ten years so I said why not get the next model up..After getting home I looked at the old sander again and said,"all it needs is a new pad." I looked on Amazon and the rest is history.

Customer Review: good sander
The makita is easy to use and works well. It isn't for big jobs - it seems to be better for small to medium projects. All and all I was happy with it and would buy it again.
Customer Review: Great sander
I've been using this sander fairly heavily for over a year now. It's held up well and I've always been satisfied with its perfomance. The variable speed control is handy, at high speed it cuts quickly, at the lowest it can be pretty gentle. Over time the sanding pad has worn out, but was easy to replace. I think it might be a little louder now then it was new. As for the vibrations, it doesn't numb my hands nearly as much as some sanders I've used.
